8-Bit Banter with DjjD: Snareskin – ‘Snares on a Plane’

Posted by

Hey all, DjjD here.

I can appreciate an artist who gravitates towards a persona for his or her music, but gathering 2-3 different pseudonyms for yourself, takes skill. Not only do you have to maintain each one of these on a regular basis, but you have to separate yourself from….yourself to generate compositions for the correlating genres for each name. Such is the case of Snareskin (a.k.a. froxic, conceptor). Whatever you wanna call him, there’s no denying he has a unique ability to blend the chill and smooth with the loud and aggressive.

The Unicorn Princess Royally Reviews ‘Hiraeth’ by WMD

Posted by

Happy December, chip folks!

When I started off writing articles with the Blog, I came across a west coast artist named WMD, and reviewed his release, ‘Entelecheia‘. A little less than a year later, I discovered his release, entitled ‘Hiraeth‘. Notorious for entitling albums with strong, morose, and sometimes unorthodox words, WMD named this album after a Welsh word that has no direct English translation. The only words close to it are words such as ‘longing’ and ‘homesickness’, specifically for a place that might not even exist. I have to admit that part of what draws me to WMD’s music is the sense of nostalgia and deep emotional connection that is tied into it, and I can’t help it. I’m drawn to things I have experience with, and can understand.

Aydan Appreciates & Interviews: ‘Fragmentation’ & Professor Shyguy

Posted by

Longtime chipmusic veteran Brandt Cooley, aka Professor Shyguy, is a highly revered, R&B influenced artist whose music typically features soulful vocals, powerful guitar solos, and memorable melodies. His golden voice is immediately recognizable by any fan familiar with his work, in addition to his phenomenal shredding on the axe. Shyguy is also an extremely prolific artist, with several singles and numerous album releases since his first ‘official’ album, ‘Geekotica’, released in mid-2012. ‘Fragmentation’, his chip-pop-rock opera amalgam, is a tale of growing up which was soft-released to the public on December 5th and it’s his most powerful and emotional work to date. Let’s delve into this incredible album!

Happy Holidays to one and all! It’s that time of year again. Snow is falling on the blog, President Hoodie has made another amazing announcement, and we’re all scrambling for the perfect Christmas gift. As we all partake in the time-honored tradition of rampant consumerism, why not support some kickass chiptune artists while we’re at it? I think that’s a swell idea. Which is why I’ve decided to use this month’s review column to do a little something different. It’s the ChipWIN Holiday Gift Guide!
