Volume 5 Progress Report

Posted by

Sup y’all? =) President Hoodie here with a quick update to the progress of ‘Chiptunes = WIN: Volume 5′ along with some interesting thoughts from this year’s judging panel.

First up, as you’ve all probably noticed by now (what with our daily reminders and all〜(꒪꒳꒪)〜), the V.5 submission deadline has been extended from June 12th to June 19th. As of this publication, there’s a little less than a week remaining for all tracks to be finalized and submitted. So everyone, get ’em done and get ’em in! Once that’s wrapped up, we’ll begin the judging period of the project, which’ll likely take a couple of weeks to lock in. Don’t worry, I’ll entertain you with some quality #JudgesTweets during that process. ಠ‿↼

Regarding album artwork, how about a blurry sneak peek of the work in progress?

Aydan Appreciates: ‘Highly Responsive to FM’ by +tek

Posted by

Of the many unique bullet hell shooters available to players of this niche, arcade-style genre, none are more iconic than ZUN’s completely self-published, long-running Touhou series. Lovable characters, simple controls, and phenomenal boss fights are just a few things that make these games so popular among their thousands of players. However, almost more iconic than the characters themselves is the music. Over time, many tracks have made their rounds through the ears of countless listeners and have become beloved by many. Chiptuners such as Kommisar and HertzDevil have covered a large amount of Touhou music on LSDj and FamiTracker to great success. However, +tek takes these covers to a new realm by porting the music over to an FM synthesis chip and putting their own twist on it. So let’s see what all the fuss is about this phenomenal new release!

Let it be noted that these tracks all loop once; at about the halfway point of each song, you’ll notice that the song restarts smoothly. I suggest that the tracks be listened to in their entirety. During boss fights in the Touhou series, the music would continue looping until the very end of the stage. Keep that feeling and hold it close!

Chip Mom’s Kitchen #29: Cream Cheese Stuffed Monkey Bread

Posted by

Welcome back to my kitchen, ya’ll. Go ahead and grab a seat because today we’re trying something new. Now, we’ve all seen these cute little minute long cooking videos on social media. The ones with catchy names and morning news television music. I’ve always been a bit skeptical of these oh-so-well packaged recipes. Welp, I finally caved to the craving and gave one a shot. H/T to Tasty for the recipe for…

Office Hours – Gors ‘Limitless’

Posted by

This edition of Office Hours will be my first opportunity to review an artist that I have previously covered, which is exciting for me to see their development and revisit some old favorites. Gors follows up his 2015 release of ‘Brave New World’ with ‘Limitless’, a 10-track album exploring the endless facets of creativity. The sounds and styles of this release are widely varied but form a cohesive whole, and the Famitracker work is top-notch. From retro action-platformer jams and bouncy Nintendo-esque textures to chippy pop-punk inspired tunes, you will surely find something to satisfy your aural palate with this album!
