The Unicorn Princess Royally Reviews ‘Reminisce’ by WMD

Posted by

Happy October, folks. I hope you are all well.

Every month that I write these blog entries, I can’t believe how quickly the year flies by. Up in New York City, we’re partly settled into fall; the leaves are barely starting to change colors, and the weather can’t seem to make up its mind. I’ve always regarded autumn to be a time of renewal, and the soundtracks I listen to during this time of the year tend to remain the most nostalgic to me throughout the year.  That being said, we have been blessed with a new WMD album, entitled ‘Reminisce’ and I do believe this one will stay with me in future seasons, taking me right back to the memories of this October.

Stokin’ the Forge: ‘IDGAF’ by JANX

Posted by

An October salutation to all of the probably pretty dang awesome readers of The ChipWIN Blog. Frankly, October is one of my favorite months of the year, at least in Oregon. The temperature tamps down to something a bit more reasonable, the rains start to return, and the local dessert shop starts making their kickass October only pumpkin pie. This year, there’s a little zaniness making the witching month extra special. JANX is back with fresh material on their latest EP, ‘IDGAF’. With each track replete with JANX’s signature ridiculous rhymes and sick chiphop backing, this is an album not be missed. Jump down below the fold to dive into a few tracks, and check out a few words from the artist themselves.

Aydan Appreciates & Interviews: ‘Void’ & Nanode

Posted by

The chipmusic community has gotten the rare opportunity to watch an artist truly expand technically and stylistically in Nanode. Beginning under the alias Metatronaut, Nanode released his first full-length album ‘Waveform Warrior‘ in mid-2015, and subsequently killed the project to further his musical style. ‘Loopy‘ was released in October 2015 under Nanode, which was an excellently executed Nanoloop EP. He then transitioned towards LSDj as his instrument of choice with the release of ‘Journey‘ in 2016, and each release has become progressively more impressive. Nanode’s talent can’t be denied, and just when we thought nothing could top early 2017’s ‘Voyager‘, ‘Void’ has been announced, teased, and will be released shortly. Having had the pleasure of listening through the album early, I can assure you that the album is his best work to date.

What’s On Tap – EvilWezil

Posted by

Welcome to the October edition of ‘What’s on Tap?’ and boy do we have a unique musical selection for you this month! If I had a dollar for every album that I own that features Game Boy, vocals, and electric autoharp, well… I wouldn’t have a penny to my name. But wait – get those dollars ready because EvilWezil’s new jam ‘Forever Ago’ is a frenetic EP filled with LSDJ bleeps, sultry vocals, and the dulcet tones of distorted, wah-wah drenched autoharp goodness.

Progression: Music Theory 105 – Modes, Modality, and Chord Substitutions

Posted by

Hey dudes and dudettes,

Tuberz here with my fifth (can you believe it’s already been that long?) installment in my series of articles centered around the understanding and application of music theory. Last month we covered chord voicings and counterpoint in an attempt to make our progressions sound smoother. As I stated last time, this stuff is starting to get pretty bonkers difficult if you don’t have prior theory knowledge, so I strongly recommend you go back and read my previous articles. This article is going to cover the use of the seven traditional modes in a harmonic context, along with the idea of modal mixture and chord substitutions which will help you add some spice to your chord progressions.

Let’s jam.

ah yes spicy music i love me some coriander on my music
