Clover Chain Reacts To: Chiptunes4Autism – Volume 3

A little over a month ago, Chiptunes4Autism released their highly anticipated ‘Volume 3: Forces of Neurodivergence’ compilation. Spanning around an hour and a half, the album is part of an ongoing fundraising nonprofit run by Gustuf Young (Asperkraken), focused on promoting autism positivity, and empowering people on the spectrum. Uniting a diverse group of chiptune artists from all around the world, with all kinds of backgrounds, Chiptunes4Autism organizes live showcases and a yearly compilation album. The earnings are donated to a few different causes that support opportunities, advocacy, and resources – all while giving musicians, neurodiverse or otherwise, a helpful and accepting community in the process.

Chip Bit Sid Takes On : HarleyLikesMusic – Steel City Zone

For this week’s review, I have the distinct pleasure of reviewing the newest album of one of my biggest influences – HarleyLikesMusic’s new ‘Steel City Zone’ as released on Thebasebit. I’ve known Harley for a few years now, first meeting him just before he got into making music on LSDJ and to say his music leaves an impression would be an understatement. After two wildly successful albums released on the Cheapbeats label, Harley is back again with his old tricks – and some new ones too. As someone who cites Harley as a major influencer of my own techniques, I think I’m quite lucky that I get the chance to talk about this with you – it’s not often one gets to discuss someone who has brought so much to the LSDJ game.

The Unicorn Princess Royally Reviews ‘workplace ergonomics’ by nmlstyl

Happy June, folks!

This month on the blog, I display to you all a modest delayed reaction on a spring release that I enjoyed recently. ‘workplace ergonomics’ was released on April 23rd, 2018 by Philly based musician, visual artist, and coder, nmlstyl.  While I was shocked that it hadn’t already been reviewed here, there were absolutely no surprises on my end as to how gorgeous this record turned out to be.

Progression: Teoría Musical 113 – Simplicidad, Limitación y Cuando Menos es Más

Hola, Amigos y Amigas:

El mes pasado hablamos sobre el concepto de estructura, forma y crear frases musicales cohesivas. Estamos en un punto en el que estos conceptos son un tanto complicados, así que recomiendo mucho que vayas y leas mis artículos pasados, que pueden ayudarte a contextualizar lo que hemos aprendido hasta ahora. Desarrollaremos lo que cubrimos el mes pasado con todos los elementos de la teoría musical entremezclados para crear una sola y refinada frase musical. Hemos aprendido mucho sobre cómo hacer material musical muy emocionante y que te puede hacer levantar las cejas, pero, ¿siempre debe estar lleno de todos esos conceptos complejos? ¿Está  bien que en ocasiones solo se utilicen tres acordes y una melodía simple? Creo que es momento de averiguarlo.

Vamos a ello.

Estoy muy feliz de que el artículo de este mes sea sobre la simplicidad. Este en específico me llevo un gran total de dos minutos de edición.

Progression: Music Theory 113 – Simplicity, Restraint, and when Less is More

Hey dudes and dudettes,

Last month we covered the idea of structure, form, and creating holistic musical statements. We’re at a point now where these concepts are quite difficult, so I highly recommend that you go back and read through my previous articles which will help contextualise what we know by this point. We’re building on what we talked about last month with all of the elements of music theory intermingling to create a single refined musical statement. We’ve learned all about how to make very exciting and high-brow musical material, but should it always be full of these difficult concepts? Is it sometimes okay to just use three chords and a simple melody? I guess it’s time to find out.

I’m so glad that this month’s post is about simplicity. This took me a grand total of 2 minutes to edit.
