Glenntai Got: ‘Selfie USA’ by RobKTA

Posted by

Many people have different inspirations and perspectives on chipmusic, and the emergence of chip elements in modern production was an inevitable expectation in its rise of popularity. We’ve seen and heard many acts expand and continue making music both in and out of the chip community, and today we’re coming across what I’ve always felt was a gem humbly hanging out. Enter RobKTA with ‘Selfie USA’; released with Hyperwave Records. This album is an album that brings you through a wild laser montage as if you’re walking on and around Dotonbori bridge. If you’re not familiar with RobKTA’s delightfully funky aesthetic, get ready for the middle of your week to get that much livelier.

A Square Meal: 光のチップチューンVS闇のチップチューン 対決コンピレーション (Light vs. Dark Chiptune)

Posted by

Last month a vast group of chip musicians from the land of the rising sun united their forces to make an astonishing compilation featuring a theme that never gets old: Light vs. Dark. This delicious compilation is divided into two albums, each one containing the best warriors to defend their side. Which one could win? Well, with this line-up; the listener for sure. Before you pick up a camp, let’s take a look at ‘光のチップチューンVS闇のチップチューン 対決コンピレーション’ (Hikari no chippchuun vs. Yami no Chippchuun – Taiketsu Conpireeshon), released through Novtos.

Wounds and Resolutions: Curious Quail – ‘Twelve Months’

Posted by

Curious Quail’s ‘Twelve Months’ opens with a simple, quiet guitar chord, E major. A single pulse plays, E, the tonic, a perfect resolution in isolation.

The gameboy falters, falling down until it reaches a B. Perfect fifth. The next best thing.

For the first minute, each phrase ends in one of these two notes.

This song is titled ‘Resolutions’.

“a collection of twelve songs about life, love, loss, beauty, and so much more told through a canvas of hasty melodic decisions and instrumentation that you don’t often get together”

Aydan Appreciates: ‘Rhythm’n’Bits 2’ by Yoann Turpin

Posted by

As many of you probably know, Yoann Turpin is an artist that I happen to follow quite closely. I’ve always got my eye on him, as he releases high-quality tunes frequently, and he’s often one of the first artists who comes to mind when I’m deciding what album I’d like to review each month. On March 27th, he released ‘Rhythm’n’Bits 2’, a direct sequel to the first album he had written and released nearly seven years prior, and the album is filled with the intricately beautiful compositions I’ve come to know and love from Turpin. I’m elated to have the opportunity to review this piece of work.
