This Month in The Overworld: Uctumi

Always witty and to the point, this month’s The Overworld guest once said about hardware limitations “Challenge is the fuel that turns the cogs of creativity”.

Happy June, folks!

This month on the blog, I display to you all a modest delayed reaction on a spring release that I enjoyed recently. ‘workplace ergonomics’ was released on April 23rd, 2018 by Philly based musician, visual artist, and coder, nmlstyl.  While I was shocked that it hadn’t already been reviewed here, there were absolutely no surprises on my end as to how gorgeous this record turned out to be.

The Unicorn Princess Royally Reviews The ‘Posthuman’ Video by Conquer Monster

Happy December, folks!

Back in November of 2015, I had the pleasure of talking with Joshua Faulkner and Daniel Romero of the Salt Lake City super synth duo known as Conquer Monster. Their album, ‘Metatransit‘, had just been released the previous month in October, and on top of being incredibly sound design savvy with a variety of instruments, synthesizers, and a C64 on their album the group also performs live and focuses a good portion of their time on reeling listeners in with visuals. Debuting on December 11, 2017, the group has taken one of their tracks ‘Posthuman’ from ‘Metatransit’ and created a retro video featuring the artists in a 90s point-and-click inspired video game.

Kuma’s Quick Shots #23 ft. Gigibyte, Thorazine Unicorn, and 8-Bit Mullet

  • Heyo, ChipWINners! Welcome back to Quick Shots! This month, I’ll be reviewing work from three artists across the creative spectrum who have each brought something rather unique to the table. The first is a debut EP from a chiptuner with EDM leanings. The second is an artist I’ve featured in my interview column who has recently put out two new singles. The third is an offering that skews more towards Nerdcore than chiptune, but was too unique to pass up on sharing with all of you. So lets not waste any more time. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the works of Gigibyte, Thorazine Unicorn, and 8-Bit Mullet.

Chip Bit Sid Takes on: Psycosis – ‘Mash Bandicoot’

Sometimes in chiptune & VGM, you hear some of the craziest music. This time is now. This week’s album was something I found a while back when I was scouring through all types of VGM. ‘Mash Bandicoot’ is the insane experiment by British artist Psycosis, and is exactly what you’d expect. A mash up of all things Crash Bandicoot whilst combining hip-hop & rap. Sounds extremely ludicrous?

You’re right. It is. But for a Bandicoot fan like myself, it’s so so good!

Aydan Appreciates & Interviews: ‘Dimensions’ & Shirobon

Hey ChipWINners! 2016 has been a breathtakingly impressive year for chipmusic. It’s not even the end of February yet and we’ve already seen amazing work from the likes of LITTLE PAW, Awesome Force, Conquer Monster, and many others. While there have been some rising stars and a lot of new talent hitting the scene, chiptune veterans are strutting their stuff as well, pushing our community into the brink of mainstream music culture. One such example would be the legendary Shirobon, whose most recent releases, ‘The Arcade Dream’ and ‘Infinity’, blew a lot of his impressive earlier work out of the water. Just last week, he released his latest work through Hyperwave Records, ‘Dimensions’, and it’s already been received with astounding applause and praise from the community. Let’s take a look at what Shirobon’s EP has in store for us!
