The Unicorn Princess Royally Reviews ‘Paradise’ & Interviews DBOYD

Posted by

It’s been a minute since I’ve published here on the blog, and it’s good to be back. I return with the news of an incredible release by none other than an Oklahoma native that you might all know by the name of DBOYD (Don’t Blink Or You’ll Die). ‘Paradise’ was released on January 27th, 2017 via Galaxy Swim Team and the EP consists of music from straight out of Game Boy. Listening to releases so cleanly recorded and intricate really made me want to sit down and devour everything Little Sound Dj can do and I suggest you all buy the record to feel the same inspiration that I’m feeling.

Turbo Super Post-MAG MAG-Post 2017 & Knuckles Gaiden Day One Edition

By the time you read this, everyone should be home and happy, well rested, without the MAGFlu and otherwise readjusted to real life. While I’m WRITING it, however, I’m drowning in posts from people in transit back to the dark corners of the world they crawled from so that they can go heal themselves. While this year’s MAGFest might have been the biggest one so far, it also seems to have taken the most from us in terms of bodily health, but only because everyone was incapable of having any degree of chill. Everyone basically just kept going until they were physically unable to go anymore, and even then they just kinda propped their bodies up in chairs so they could at least look like they were still going like some kind of knock-off ‘Weekend at Bernie’s.’ It was amazing. But enough talk – let’s have at this highlight reel!

Volume 5 Progress Report

Posted by

Sup y’all? =) President Hoodie here with a quick update to the progress of ‘Chiptunes = WIN: Volume 5′ along with some interesting thoughts from this year’s judging panel.

First up, as you’ve all probably noticed by now (what with our daily reminders and all〜(꒪꒳꒪)〜), the V.5 submission deadline has been extended from June 12th to June 19th. As of this publication, there’s a little less than a week remaining for all tracks to be finalized and submitted. So everyone, get ’em done and get ’em in! Once that’s wrapped up, we’ll begin the judging period of the project, which’ll likely take a couple of weeks to lock in. Don’t worry, I’ll entertain you with some quality #JudgesTweets during that process. ಠ‿↼

Regarding album artwork, how about a blurry sneak peek of the work in progress?

Another year, another MAGFest. Ho-hum. Just a bunch of nerds together playing videogames in an overpriced hotel, I don’t get what’s so sp-

GUYS. I’M SO SORRY. Someone locked me in a basement and sent a robot clone to sabotage this article -all in an attempt to make you think that MAGFest SUCKS! DON’T LISTEN TO IT. MAGFEST IS BEST FEST! The person who is Adam Seats and is definitely probably not a robot clone is here once again to give you the rundown on all the great music you missed because you weren’t there/were there but were doing something else/were there but can’t remember because of REASONS.

ChipWIN-tern Spotlight: The Yamaha YM2612 & You!

Posted by

If we’re really honest with ourselves, there are certain kinds of chiptune that are more visible than others. If I walked up to a random Joe at MAGFest and asked who their favorite chiptune musician was, I’ll bet dollars to donuts that they’d bring up an artist known for either Game Boy or NES music, or if they’re over the age of 30 they might mention some demoscene artists and their love of the Commodore 64.  But unless you really go looking for it, it seems like it’s hard to find anyone making music on the venerable Sega Genesis, or at the very least made with the YM2612 soundchip. It seems that way – but nothing could be farther from the truth. I’d like to take a few minutes and bring to light some real gems out there of an under appreciated console and, if you’re inspired by the end of it, give you the tools you’ll need to make your own original content to take to the club.

Hello chiptunerds! It’s good to finally get back to ‘Four Small Songs’! I wasn’t able to post last month unfortunately, but that didn’t deter people from adding their music on the soundcloud group. This month has had some fantastic songs, so relax, put your feet up & enjoy some fine chiptune, circa 2016!
