Kuma’s Quick Shots #25 ft nanobii and Taylor Eruysal

Posted by

Yo, wassup, ChipWINners, and welcome back to Quick Shots: the monthly album review column where I take aim at the latest the scene has to offer and determine if it’s worth jamming out to or if you should just walk on past it. This month, I’ve got music from an exciting Swedish composer who imbues all his music with radiance and positivity, as well as introspective, complex arias from an artist who’s new to the scene.  Both producers bring records to the table that are worth dissecting, so let’s not waste any more time. Sit back, relax, and join me as I pick apart new releases from veteran chip artist nanobii and neophyte Taylor Eruysal.

Kuma’s Quick Shots: Round 18

Hey there, ChipWINners! Welcome back to Quick Shots: the album review column in which I break down the finer points of some of the latest releases in the scene, then give you a numerical TL;DR to help you determine if a record is right for you.  This month, I have two albums up for review that explore spaces I’ve yet to discuss on the blog.  One is a metal album that incorporates vocals via the Hatsune Miku Vocaloid software, and has incredibly powerful lyrics.  The other is an album from an accomplished pianist who has composed a very stirring concept album using the tracker software in the Pico-8 virtual console.  Both albums albums caught me off guard and have a lot to offer their respective audiences.  That said, let’s not waste anymore time! Sit back, relax, and plug in those headphones as I take the time to review the latest from 8-Bit Hero and Gruber.

So You Wanna Make A Chiptune #4: Motivation

Posted by

Happy New Year ChipWINners!  Welcome back to my column, So You Wanna Make A Chiptune! It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these.  Normally, I’ve reserved SYWMAC for the review of hardware and software related to the production of chiptune to help you determine what would be best suited for you. However, with this being the first article of the new year, I thought I’d talk about something just as important: motivation.

I’m sure a great many of you have made resolutions to become more active, steadfast and prolific with your creative endeavors. Just like with any other resolution, I know you’re going to need help staying focused. It’s okay: concentrating on new goals, New Year’s resolutions or otherwise, can be a daunting task. Fortunately, there are plenty of resources within the scene to help you stay motivated! If you’re willing to work towards your larger goal by doing smaller goals, you’re guaranteed to make your dreams a reality in no time. Let’s not waste any more time. Come along with me as I guide you beautiful unicorns to pristine waters that I hope you will drink from!

Raw Cuts With Kuma #24: My Parents Favorite Music

Posted by

Hey, ChipWINners!  Welcome back to Raw Cuts!  It’s been a while since I’ve done an interview! My last was with the amazing Alex Mauer, and I wanted to do an interview with someone who’s just as fantastic. I am certain I did just that. With more than fifteen years of music production under her belt, this artist is one of the select few who has found success and garnered attention by combining the lyrical gymnastics of hip hop with the high energy instrumentation that vgm and chiptune have to offer.  She has an impressive array of albums in her portfolio, has worked with other big names such as Professor Shyguy and MC Chris on several occasions, and been on a slew of live performances. With all that, it’s very unlikely you haven’t heard of her or her music. Let’s not delay any longer.  Sit back, relax, and join me as I enjoy a lovely conversation with Steffeny Messinger aka My Parents Favorite Music!
