Rhyphte Reviews: ‘We Were Once Called Spring’ by Azuria Sky

Posted by

It’s finally summer, and I’m finished with college and coming out of hiatus. The last few months have been crunch, and I’ve had much less time to produce or review, but I’ve still been able to hear so many of the great new titles that have been dropping this year. Among them is yet another excellent indie-chip hybrid, a subgenre of a subgenre I’m starting to notice I have a weakness for.

We Were Once Called Spring‘ is Azuria Sky’s experimental and significant expansion into the constantly blending realm of folk and indie. It’s an eclectic assortment of LSDJ riffs, folksy chord progressions, and poignant, sentimental lyrics backed by acoustic guitar.

Chip Bit Sid Takes On: Paladin Shield – ‘Many Blessings’

It is funny how plans can be altered within a second. Originally, I was going to review something else. However, just as I was about to put fingers to keyboard, I got an email: ‘Paladin Shield’ had just released a new album; ‘Many Blessings’! ‘Hot damn’, I said as I spent more money on yet another album. Below are three tracks that I loved off ‘Many Blessings’ and why I think it’s top notch.

The Unicorn Princess Royally Reviews ‘Hue’ By MYRONE

Happy March, folks!

Spring marches forward and the month is quickly coming to an end. Between the extra hour, change of sunlight, and good music, I’m feeling pretty good. This month, I wanted to share an album with the ChipWIN community that was brought to my attention by President Hoodie called ‘Hue’, by MYRONE.  While the album is not chiptune, anyone into tracker programming can easily appreciate programmed synths and acknowledge the time spent in recording, mixing, and playing instruments, especially guitar.

Kuma’s Quick Shots: Round 19

Hey, what’s up, ChipWINners? Welcome back to the blog! This time around, I’ll be reviewing two amazing albums from two different rock acts.  One of them is a new band from the west coast that makes some incredibly heartfelt sadtune and emo.  The other is from an underrated artist from France who’s made an album that’s equal parts alt rock and synthwave.  Let’s not delay any longer. Sit back, relax, and plug in those headphones as I take the time to review work by Dad Mode and Le Xowar.

Aydan Appreciates: ‘Phantom Beach’ by Here Between You Me

Posted by

Hey there, ChipWINners! In case you don’t recall their Chiptunes = #SRSBSNS track ‘Forever Alone‘, Here Between You Me is a hype-fueled chiptune/rock/pop group whose releases are generally few and far between. Over the years, they’ve released tracks to the public through their Bandcamp in the form of singles, or on Soundcloud in the cases of covers, rough cuts and demos. Now, with the release of their first EP, ‘Phantom Beach’, the polish that these Los Angeles based champs have put into their music really shows, and this has quickly become one of Brandon’s and my favorite releases of this year thus far. So what’s all the fuss about, anyway? Let’s dive into this sonic ocean of a release and find out!
