This Month in The Overworld: Kenobit

Posted by

Is there something like a Chiptune Maestro? This month’s artist, Kenobit, a.k.a Fabio Bortolotti, could definitely be defined as one. Self proclaimed Game Boy addict, he has been working on his masterful and dynamic tracks for over 9 years, and has certainly become an integral figure of the chipmusic community in Milan, Italy.

Fabio was born in Italy, in the year 1982. After playing drums in a few punk bands in his teens, he discovered chiptune at a show in a small club. He instantly fell in love, bought an LSDJ cart, and never stopped producing chiptune.

Aydan Appreciates: ‘CHIP ZONE • #003’ by Ayoshutduff

Posted by

ChipWINners might remember Ayoshutduff from his tracks on volumes 2, 3, 5, and Celt-tunes, which were all quite memorable in their own rights. While he may have released a limited number of actual albums, his library of singles is quite expansive, both in quantity and in a stylistic sense. From bass-heavy hits to video game remixes and symphonic, atmospheric RPG-inspired sounds, there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot that he CAN’T pull off. His latest album, ‘CHIP ZONE • #003’, is an aural journey with underlying tinges of nostalgia and an insatiable curiosity for space. Make sure to secure yourself in your seat, and ensure that your listening pods – be they external or semi-internal – are functioning properly. This is your captain Aydan speaking, and we’ll be reaching your tonal destination in 3…2…1!

Familiar Faces in New Places: ANAMANAGUCHI & Friends at The Broadberry

Posted by

We all know that ANAMANAGUCHI, despite their rebranding away from chiptunes, is still one of the most successful bands from the early 00’s era of chiptune still performing. I never give up a chance to see a good band live, so when I heard they were coming to Richmond again I hopped on it. They didn’t reveal their guest performers – Chipocrite with Rekcahdam, Gull and Lazerdisk – until right before the show. I’m sure by now you all know how I feel about Paul and Roger, but the other two bands I’d never heard of – and given the fact that this was the first show I was seeing at The Broadberry, one of Richmond’s newer venues, I was extremely hyped for what was to come. The Return of I/O: Bit Shifter, glomag, minusbaby & Chipocrite

Posted by

If you’ve been involved with the East Coast chiptune scene for a while, you’ve probably heard about I/O, which is a recurring chiptune showcase in Brooklyn, New York. You might also know that I/O had been on a bit of a hiatus since last year, with the last proper show happening in June 2014. Well, the last proper show until March 19th of this year that is. Good Guy Tony Ness hit me up when the show was announced – and when he told me that Bit Shifter, glomag, minusbaby and Chipocrite were all playing together for the first I/O of the year, I knew what I had to do: I starved myself for a week to get the money for a bus ticket, packed my bag and took a 7 hour ride from Richmond, VA to the heart of New York City. ChipWIN-tern Spotlight: ‘Nebulae’ by Space Town Savior

Posted by

Here we are in a post Leonard Nimoy world, and all I (or anyone else it seems) can think about is space. People are constantly talking about Mars and what new things they find on it. Or there’s the dwarf planet Ceres, or this Earthlike planet Kepler 186-f. Hell, even ‘The X-Files’ is coming back to TV – so how fitting that Space Town Savior’s new (and final!) release ‘Nebulae’ is hot space-on-space, atmospheric trancey electronic goodness. You may, remember Space Town Savior from Volume 1 of our compilations – how wonderful it is now to get to talk about a full album instead of a single track!
