Hhhhhheeeeeeeey what’s up YouTube it’s ya boi the ChipWIN-tern and I’m here to show you the speed glitch in my playthrough of – wait, no, I’m sorry, wrong medium, let’s try that again.
Hey blog fans! We just released a new compilation with the cool folks at DESKPOP. You know what that means – we’re gonna talk about all the cool tunes! I’m sure you all got to check it out on the live release show, but if not, we’ve got it all right here for you. Listen and read along below!
Howdy-ho Chipperinos! No need to waste any time here – you and I both know you’re here to get the hottest takes on these V6 tracks, so let’s not keep you waiting!
By the time you read this, everyone should be home and happy, well rested, without the MAGFlu and otherwise readjusted to real life. While I’m WRITING it, however, I’m drowning in posts from people in transit back to the dark corners of the world they crawled from so that they can go heal themselves. While this year’s MAGFest might have been the biggest one so far, it also seems to have taken the most from us in terms of bodily health, but only because everyone was incapable of having any degree of chill. Everyone basically just kept going until they were physically unable to go anymore, and even then they just kinda propped their bodies up in chairs so they could at least look like they were still going like some kind of knock-off ‘Weekend at Bernie’s.’ It was amazing. But enough talk – let’s have at this highlight reel!
Polygon Horizon is a chipartist whose name may not be recognized by many. However, on hearing their polished sound, out-of-this-world riffage, and references to the Nintendocore music catalog throughout their Facebook page, it’ll be clear that this is no newbie to the chipmusic genre. Poopmaster (debatably the contender for ‘Silliest Artist Name with Best Music’) went through a transitional period, slightly altered their usual style, and morphed into the chipmetal project that is PH. ‘Synonymous Dimensions’ is this artist’s virgin project under this alias; this is a concept album dealing with the unique idea that five video game characters suddenly become conscious of what’s happening around them and the fact that they are, indeed, nothing more than digitally created objects in a predetermined world. Read on to see what this veteran of the genre has created!
I hope you guys are ready for more ‘Chiptunes = WIN: Volume 5’ album reviews, because I’m here to talk about tracks 52-99! We start off with- wait, no, no, that’s a bold-faced lie; there aren’t any more tracks on the album. I can feel your disappointment, but since I’ve been on sabbatical working on a top secret project for the blog (more on that later this month), I was able to jump right on a brand-new release from one of my favorite West Coast chiptune cats as soon as I saw it happened! Pedro Silva, AKA Slime Girls, has been picking up speed with the releases lately, and August 1st marked the release of his newest album, ‘don’t forget.’
