Guérin’s Dissections: ‘DESTINY’ by Tri Angles

Posted by

‘DESTINY’ is an essay on wanderlust. It is a statement of contentment and restlessness. Tri Angles conjures amazing emotions in his music, and this album is no different. Though only loosely connected to chiptune at this point, Tri Angles is still part of the community, and his work deserves recognition for the ways it pushes genre boundaries and demonstrates composition prowess. In an album that most closely resembles the music he produced under his previous pseudonym, SMILETRON, ‘DESTINY’ truly captivates and shimmers with a unique beauty that most other musicians can only dream of. Under the fold, let’s dream together in the gem littered cave Tri Angles has constructed for us.

Guérin’s Dissections: ‘Nouvelle Lune’ by Pain Perdu

Posted by

Pain Perdu showed up out of nowhere last year on Chiptunes = WIN Volume 5, surprising everyone with their expert knowledge of LSDJ and their capability to pull amazing, seemingly impossible sounds out of a single Gameboy. Comprised of two Frenchmen—Maxime Roulleaux and ChipWIN’s own Paul Aupetitgendre—this duo lives in Paris and is pushing the French chipscene forward, giving it a fresh face. They have been instrumental in the recent spat of updates that LSDJ has undergone, helping to shape the instrument they’re taking the time to dissect and master. In their debut EP, ‘Nouvelle Lune’, released on Cheapbeats, Pain Perdu demonstrates just what they’re capable of. After a month off, I’m excited to get back to showing you all the best that chiptune has to offer.

Aydan Appreciates & Interviews: ‘Void’ & Nanode

Posted by

The chipmusic community has gotten the rare opportunity to watch an artist truly expand technically and stylistically in Nanode. Beginning under the alias Metatronaut, Nanode released his first full-length album ‘Waveform Warrior‘ in mid-2015, and subsequently killed the project to further his musical style. ‘Loopy‘ was released in October 2015 under Nanode, which was an excellently executed Nanoloop EP. He then transitioned towards LSDj as his instrument of choice with the release of ‘Journey‘ in 2016, and each release has become progressively more impressive. Nanode’s talent can’t be denied, and just when we thought nothing could top early 2017’s ‘Voyager‘, ‘Void’ has been announced, teased, and will be released shortly. Having had the pleasure of listening through the album early, I can assure you that the album is his best work to date.

Chiptunes = WIN: Volume 6 [Tracks 11-20]

Posted by

Welcome to the second round of track reviews for Volume 6! I’ll be taking you through some of the best that this Volume has to offer. I didn’t know that by choosing this review date I’d get to talk about YZYX, Kubbi, Vince Kaichan, Starving GOGO (whom I’ve previously reviewed), and my good friend and collaborator Auxcide, but I’ll just consider myself lucky. I’m glad I sat this year out to witness the awesome that is Volume 6. This should be fun. ;3
