America Has Demoparties?: Demosplash 2017

If you’re a twenty-something in America like myself, you’ve probably never been to a demoparty unless you’ve got the money to fly to Europe. (If you do have the money to fly to Europe for a demoparty, well…take me with you?) While I’d heard tales of these events where nerds huddle together around ancient computers and make music videos that fit on floppy disks, I never thought I’d get the chance to go to one myself – which is why when Inverse Phase asked if anyone wanted to go with him to Demosplash in Pittsburgh, PA, I jumped at the opportunity. Aydan Appreciates & Interviews: ‘Tokyo Monogatari (EP)’ & sieken

In the chipmusic community, new talent seems to pop up all the time. While these skilled musicians float under the “mainstream chip” radar, they never fail to convert at least a few dozen fans with their debuts and with each new release they put out. Enter sieken, a Swedish artist with a promising and unique style in what might be the most diverse sounding year chipmusic has ever seen. His debut EP, ‘Tokyo Monogatari’, was released on February 17th as an EP of his demo tracks, and its phenomenal sound attracted me to reviewing it today. So, let’s dive right on in! (more…)

ChipWIN-tern PRE/REVIEW: ‘nova’ by xyce

Happy Saturday friends! I have something very special for you today: tidbits of knowledge about xyce’s new album, which releases tomorrow. (And now that it has, this article is properly embedded!) Now, I’m just gonna go ahead and get this out of the way (and set your internal bar extremely high): this album is ridiculous. It’s great. It’s greater than great – it’s a level of great that Tony the Tiger couldn’t express. It makes Alexander the Great seem like Alexander the Just Kinda Okay. I’m telling you this now so that you’ll have a day to prepare yourselves before this album (and your jaws) drop.
