This month, I wanted to shed some light on a really cool and inspiring Atari ST creation I came across this week. Set free to the world on January 24, 2018, ‘Escape Return’ is both a digital and vinyl release by Swiss artist, STU. I listen to a lot of music and, friends, this one really captivated me.

Chipmusic Heroes veteran Square Punch brings us a little bit of the sentimental and a lotta bit of the fresh with his late October release ‘Hurrigwen‘. The album is three tracks of excellent collaborations, and six fresh new tracks to tantalize cochlear nerves and move feet. A couple of these collaborations appear on previous Chipmusic Heroes releases of which I’m a big fan. You should check them out, but today we’ll be honing in on Square Punch’s newest tracks down past the fold.
Imagine for just a moment that it’s 1993. Electronic music is still in its early stages, with house, trance, and breakbeat hardcore being some of the EDM movement’s most popular genres. Suddenly, happy hardcore bursts onto the scene; with its characteristic piano usage, spacey synths and stabs, up-tempo and upbeat style, the next phase of this music’s evolution has begun. Now, fast forward to 2017. Numerous happy hardcore labels have shut down and many of the genre’s most popular artists have retired. The scene remains alive through the DDR community, raves, and numerous individuals and collectives in Europe and Asia. One Swedish happy hardcore musician, nanobii, is known for fusing elements of chip into some of his music, and is one of the more active happy hardcore producers to this day. His latest EP, ‘Love Songs’, released on Valentine’s Day, made Bandcamp’s top 40 best-selling albums on release. Let’s dive in and see what this EP has in store for us!
Sup y’all? =) President Hoodie back again with another of my Hoodie Highlights interviews! Due to crazy life happenings (i.e. getting MARRIED <3 ), it’s been a few months since I’ve had the time to manage one of these enjoyable talks. And what better way to bring the feature back than with a follow-up chat with my good snarky Brit friend & initial Hoodie Highlights focus, Andrew Kilpatrick? Read along as we talk all retrospective-like, as Kilpatrick brings his 5+ years of awesome chiptune contributions to a close. Enjoy!
September salutations to all of the fine folks of the ChipWIN Nation! This month, it’s my distinct pleasure to share a solid release out of the Ukraine. Odessa’s own Fat Frumos released Squarewave Oasis on Bandcamp last month. The album caught my attention by grabbing hold both of my ears and my rose-tinted recollection of happy hardcore fueled nights of reckless driving. Self described as an acidcore, chiprave, raggacore, and breakcore release, Squarewave Oasis meshes together a variety of styles into a unique musical admixture. On the surface, the release is good, and upon deep inspection, it is really good. It shines in the places where that rich stylistic palette is allowed to coalesce and truly highlight what Fat Frumos is capable of.
Hey everyone, Clipstream’s Resident Fearless Leader here with yet another new and exceptionally cool chip act’s EP that I want to share with you today. This time around, I’m bringing out Please Lose Battle‘s ‘Bedroom EP’. I’m just going to say this first and get all the silliness out of my system…
