Through the course of art history, there have always been artists or projects that defied the norm. I welcome you to this new column, titled ‘And now for something completely different!’, where we will take a look at Chiptune related acts that get themselves out of ordinary boxes and into uncharted territory where they can blossom.
Hello everyone! Paul here from the French Chip Duo Pain Perdu. Some of you may know of our YouTube channel, where I’ve done a few tutorial videos about technical aspects of LSDJ that I thought were often misunderstood, overlooked or underused. In terms of ergonomy, raw music-making potential and how easily people can access parameters that grant extremely minute control over the sound, LSDJ is a fantastic program; in fact it stands out for me as the tracker that strikes the most perfect balance between complexity and accessibility. The fact that it is displayed in the Sweden Museum of Music and Performing Arts is well-deserved.
Sup y’all? =) President Hoodie here with, uh… no interview this month.
That’s right. I’m taking the month off from my Hoodie Highlights interview column post-MAGFest for my ownmental health. haha
That said, there’s probably some of of you that have been reading my interviews over the last few months wondering why in the world I’m doing a mental health focused series in the first place. Figure here at the start of 2017 is as good a time as any to share a brief version of my story. Read on if you’re curious.
Sup y’all? =) President Hoodie here with yet another fun Volume 4 related announcement! Yaaaaaaaaay! ^_^
Any of y’all remember that album fanart contest that we (sorta, kinda accidentally) ran last year? You know, the one where Nate Horsfall, ChipWIN’s official BAMF of Artification, more or less hollowed out the center of his Volume 3 album art (was supposed to just be for a teaser… lolol) and let other folk take a go at making their own centerpiece? (results of such here). That was pretty gorram fun, right? Whaddaya say we do it again?
OKAY DOKEY THEN!! =D
I dunno, Nate, but I think maybe this is missing something. Can’t quite put my finger on what though….
Sup y’all? =) President Hoodie here once again; this time with something new regarding the imminent “Chiptunes = WIN: Volume 3” craziness.
As always, the most excellent Nate Horsfall of lightningarts.com has designed all of the Vol.3 artwork, and, completely unsurprising, it’s all absolutely STELLAR! Among the collection this time he slipped me the following “teaser” album cover, which is suspiciously missing the entire center section:
*PARTIALLY* complete artwork by Nate Horsfall.
Which gave me a nifty idea:
WHAT IFI started up an art contest to see if anyone within the chiprealm was interested in coming up with their OWN center section for this incomplete album cover?
And if so, WHAT IF I included the top three submissions in the Volume 3 Bandcamp download when it releases?
Sounds like fun, right? Well, enough folk thought the same when I initially shared the idea in the ChipWIN Fb group on this thread. So… CONSIDER IT OFFICIALLY ON. =D
Submit your artifications/shoops/etc. via the contact form below (or just post it on the Fb thread above; either is fine) by August 3rd (about a month away from the publication date of this article) and Nate & I will pick the top three to add to the release.
On that note, GET TO ARTIN’!! ^_^
