Clover Chain Reacts to: Impulses – ‘L | \/ E’

Posted by

Impulses’ Bandcamp description is simply “Emotional Underground Chiptune.” Started by Trevor Stafford at least a few years ago, their music is consistently calming, pretty, melodic, natural, and always makes me feel things. I haven’t stopped listening since I discovered them last month through the ChipWIN discord. Impulses’ sound is filled with the sincerity of 8-bit synths, and the occasional boppy modernity of edm, and I’ve enjoyed going through their full discography quite a bit. That being said, the latest release ‘L | \/ E EP’ easily stands out, with a polished cohesion, tightness, and clarity.

Clover Chain Reacts To: Knasibas – ‘CRY’

Posted by

Knasibas has been my friend for awhile now, and I’ve been a fan of his music for even longer. In case you haven’t heard of him, he’s a chiptune/bitpop genius who has been featured on Tracked and Chiptunes = WIN compilations, along with releasing music independently since 2015. Inspired by the sugar rush of jpop, the writing in heavier rock/metal, the appeal of videogame music, and EDM sensibilities, Knasibas has a unique overall sound with distinct and memorable melodies.

So now that you know what to expect, I’m really excited to talk about his latest album ‘CRY’. This release has a lot of depth to it, but the great sense of style speaks for itself. It’s inviting, open and up-front, and I find that… comforting. So rather than try to talk about everything and how it works, I’ll be honing in on that sense of comfort, and figuring out why it stuck with me. Hope you like it!

Kuma, V. Forge, Chris K’s Resplendent ‘Forest = ВИН’ Review

Posted by

Hey, what’s up ChipWINners? It’s your boy BronxKuma, welcoming you back to the blog.  This time around, we’re going to be doing something very special, as today I’ll be joining forces with Viridian Forge & Chris Krogsgard to cover the latest release from the label: ‘Forest = ВИН‘!

‘Forest = ВИН’ is a truly noteworthy release because it represents continued success for our collective.  Taking the opportunity to work with Kubbi and Agri, the founders of the Russian based Forest net label and long time supporters and partners of ChipWIN, we’ve put together a collection of aria that is truly wonderful.  This is something we’re all very proud of, as this stellar accomplishment is the 18th album ChipWIN has released in five years! Consisting of thirteen phenomenal tracks from all over the globe, ‘Forest = ВИН’ is a labor of love that is so absolutely resplendent that we just can’t wait to share with you.  So let’s not waste anymore time: sit back, relax, and plug in those headphones: it’s time to go wandering into the Forest.

The Unicorn Princess Royally Reviews ‘Divergence’ by DjjD

Posted by

This time of year is special; everyone affected by winter’s chill thaws out with the earth once warmer weather hits. Every year at this time, I always try to listen to a new playlist to compliment being able to spend more time outside and enjoying nature. This month’s review is a special new release by DjjD (who was previously part of the ChipWIN staff!) called ‘Divergence’.

This album makes you think, it fills the silence in car rides spent driving through repetitive scenes, and it expands roots by using chip elements complimented with more atmospheric textures. DjjD not only demonstrates his compositional technique, but also showcases solid production chops, the gorgeous voice of Parvarthi Gopinath and live violin played by Jeff Ball. Taking these elements and creating it into one solid project, this album flows cohesively and reminds me of the perfect score for an advertisement.
