This Month in The Overworld: Kenobit

Posted by

Is there something like a Chiptune Maestro? This month’s artist, Kenobit, a.k.a Fabio Bortolotti, could definitely be defined as one. Self proclaimed Game Boy addict, he has been working on his masterful and dynamic tracks for over 9 years, and has certainly become an integral figure of the chipmusic community in Milan, Italy.

Fabio was born in Italy, in the year 1982. After playing drums in a few punk bands in his teens, he discovered chiptune at a show in a small club. He instantly fell in love, bought an LSDJ cart, and never stopped producing chiptune.

This Month in The Overworld: Cyanide Dansen

Posted by

This month’s artist is Cyanide Dansen, an avid chiptuner who crafts deliciously catchy melodies. Based on Paris, France, her latest release, “Do no harm”, will have you swinging through the dance floor in no time.

But was Paris where it all started for her? Marie P., whose alter ego is Cyanide Dansen, was born on Epernay, France. She grew up in Rheims, where is where she met the people who encouraged her to create chiptune music for the first time back in 2011.

The Unicorn Princess Royally Reviews ‘The Mountain Is Hollow’ and Interviews little-scale

Happy April, everyone!

This month on the Blog, I wanted to review a beautiful album written by Australia-based artist and technologist, little-scale. Created by using modular synthesizers, this album works with a niche form of sound design well known to those into various forms of synthesis. I had the opportunity to talk to little-scale this month and it was my mission to get their take on why moving from Gameboys to modular is so appealing, while sharing the specific modules used during the performance of this album.

The world of modular is super in depth, hectic, and beautifully chaotic. Pictured here is a Buchla 200e I grew to get to know and love a few years ago.

INCOMING TRANSMISSION

Hey ChipWINners!

As a chiptune musician, I sometimes like to dabble in different programs and try new things. That said, I’ve noticed over the past months that there are people out there who don’t know what software or system is best for them to start making chiptunes.

Now a simple answer to this would be, “Whatever soundchip you like best, man.”

…but of course there’s more that goes into these kinds of decisions, and I’d like to be the one that helps out fellow chip-musicians in finding their preferred method of writing chiptunes. This is why I’m creating this blog series; ‘What Should I Use?’ or ‘WSIU?’ for short.

To kick it off, we’re going to be taking a look at Johan Kotlinski’s juggernaut tracker, Little Sound Dj, more commonly known as LSDj.

They got together to give the people what they needed for their Saturday night,: and that, my friends, was a night of over the top lo-fi goodness. From the openers to our magical headlinah, the stage was graced by:

Myself, Sam Mulligan, Br1ght Pr1mate, Kris Keyser, and Radlib! Hell. Yes. This article covers the show, what these guys are doing, and how they’re making it happen.
