Happy June, folks!

This month on the blog, I display to you all a modest delayed reaction on a spring release that I enjoyed recently. ‘workplace ergonomics’ was released on April 23rd, 2018 by Philly based musician, visual artist, and coder, nmlstyl.  While I was shocked that it hadn’t already been reviewed here, there were absolutely no surprises on my end as to how gorgeous this record turned out to be.

Progression: Music Theory 113 – Simplicity, Restraint, and when Less is More

Hey dudes and dudettes,

Last month we covered the idea of structure, form, and creating holistic musical statements. We’re at a point now where these concepts are quite difficult, so I highly recommend that you go back and read through my previous articles which will help contextualise what we know by this point. We’re building on what we talked about last month with all of the elements of music theory intermingling to create a single refined musical statement. We’ve learned all about how to make very exciting and high-brow musical material, but should it always be full of these difficult concepts? Is it sometimes okay to just use three chords and a simple melody? I guess it’s time to find out.

Let’s jam.

I’m so glad that this month’s post is about simplicity. This took me a grand total of 2 minutes to edit.

Progression: Music Theory 112 – Structure, Sequence, and Creating Cohesive Musical Statements

Hey dudes and dudettes,

I just dropped my album ‘Progression‘ over at Cheapbeats, and thought all of you might appreciate that you can get the .savs and .ftms when you buy the album. Learning! Woo~!

Last month we covered the idea of harmony and melody intertwining to create a holistic entity. Now, it’s pretty fair to say that we’re in deep and in order to understand some of the elements of what I’m writing about you should go back and read through my previous articles which will will help contextualise what we know by this point. We’re building on what we talked about last month with all of the elements of music theory intermingling to create a single refined musical statement. We will do this through the lens of structure and form.

Let’s jam.

This one time at band-camp I tried to summon Satan. I accidentally summoned a clarinet. Same thing really.

Chip Mom’s Kitchen #46: Cinnamon Donut Muffins

So I’ve been watching an indecent amount of Great British Bakeoff for the past week or so. Inspired, this month’s blog was going to be about a Bakewell Tart or Macarons or Choux Pastry. Unfortunately, strep throat had other plans. You will have to make do with these scrumptious, non-soggy bottomed…

Chip Mom’s Kitchen #45: Blueberry Creamcheese Bread

Posted by

For a lot of folks, holidays involve family (for better or for worse). I always spend my holidays with family, although mine is what you might call… “non-traditional”.

For instance, each Easter involves an Iron Chef style cook-off with a secret theme/ingredient. This year, the secret theme is “The Letter B“. So Buzzfeed brought to me…

Blueberry Beer Cheesecake Bread!

Difficulty level:
Newb           |         Apprentice        |         Journeyman         |         Master

Super simple, super delicious! I’m going to need to make a second one…

Quest Items:
1/2 C powdered sugar
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 tsp vanilla extract

2 1/4 C self rising flour
1/3 C brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 C milk
1 C Blueberry Ale (can substitute Blueberry Flavored Water)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 C blueberries

Musical Accompaniment:

Illustrated Guide:

For this one, we’re gonna need about Tree-fiddy.

Butter your pan in a way that would make Paula proud.

Whip together your softened cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla. Once smooth, set the mixture aside.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and the brown sugar.

Add in the wet ingredients: egg, butter, vanilla, milk, and blueberry ale. Once whisked smooth (like a thick waffle batter), stir in the blueberries.

Time to put it all together!

Add half the batter to the bread pan, and then layer the cream cheese mixture on top, making sure not to push it down into the batter.

Add the rest of the batter on top; then pop it into the oven for 40 – 45 minutes!

Let the bread rest and cool, top with powdered sugar, and then devour.

Lastly, remember, Chip Mom luvs ya!
