As you’ve no doubt noticed in and around our community as of recent, we’ve been promoting the hawt diggity dangin’ dawg out of our latest compilation, ‘Chiptunes = WIN: Volume 7‘. And rightfully so! It’s absolutely stellar! ♬♫♪◖(●。●)◗♪♫♬

That said, the chipmusic from this year’s Volume isn’t the only part worthy of extended celebration and promotion. The Vol.7 art contest entries are equally phenomenal, and you can feast your eyes upon their collective splendor via the following convenient slideshow. Kuma’s Quick Shots #21: Khaz and Destruction Luster

Happy New Year, everyone! Welcome back to Quick Shots: the album review column where I dissect the latest offerings from the scene to help you determine what’s worth listening to.  This month, I have two EPs to that embody very different aesthetics within the scene.  The first is an endearing cross pollination of pop culture that feels slightly tongue-in-cheek.  The second is a more serious attempt at capturing the glorious nostalgia of a niche within PC gaming that is often overlooked. These albums both succeed at capturing the attention of their intended audiences, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t take the time to showcase them properly.  So let’s not waste anymore time. Join me as I delve deep into work from newcomer Khaz and multi-faceted veteran Destruction Luster.

Stoking the Forge: ‘FOLIAGE EP’ by scatterpattern

March has roared in like a lion, noble ChipWINNERs, and the time has come again to open the Forge to one and all.  I’m glad to have you back again for this month’s instalment because I’ve stumbled across an up and comer named scatterpattern, and his debut LSDJ EP, ‘FOLIAGE’ has gotten me quite fired me up.

A farm boy from the rugged wilds of Canada’s Manitoba, scatterpattern didn’t own his first Gameboy until 2013, but by no means is he a stranger to music.  Considering himself a bassist at heart, he got his start playing in metal bands before starting the techno-8bit noise band Gamma Dragons with his friend and consistent musical cohort, Tspeiro.  Once he acquired his first gameboy and an LSDJ cart, that obsession familiar to many readers of this blog took a firm root in his brain stem.
