The Post-MAG MAG Post: 2019 Highlights

Posted by

I would like to start this article off with an apology. Longtime fans of the blog may know that, generally, if I’m writing a post-event retrospective (i.e. PAX East or MAGFest) I make it a point to not only cover the music but also the various games I played at the event – highlighting indie games is one of my favorite things to do, as it helps smaller devs get some much needed press. Unfortunately, due to my increased duties helping sling merch at Chipspace this year, I was unable to play any games at MAG, so this year’s review is limited to the chiptune showcases that I caught at both Chipspace & main stage. Which isn’t to say there’s not a lot to talk about, because holy balls, there were a lot of awesome showcases at both venues!

Stellar show poster, as always, from Faerie Fire Design!

ChipWIN Comps Historical Context: Year One

Sooooooo, what was going to be a week-long series of social media posts giving brief historical context on five years of our compilation series (a little hype leading up to Friday’s V.6 launch if you will) just turned into a week-long series of blog posts featuring such. Why? Simple: there’s no word limit here. ಠ‿↼ And boy howdy, can I write a lot about this gorram project; especially this core facet of it.

Read on below the jump if you dare.

Hoodie Highlights… Stemage [again]!

Sup y’all? =) In an attempt to actually keep my interview column the monthly affair it’s supposed to be, I return to you with the latest edition of Hoodie Highlights! As with last month’s edition, the primary talking point is once again mental health, a topic that’s likely going to be my focus for a good while now. If for no other reason that I want to keep talking about it, and think that maybe we should!

Today’s guest thinks similarly, so much so that he’s returning as an interviewee here for a second time! The poor soul…

Everyone, once again, welcome Grant “Stemage” Henry to the blog!

Stokin’ the Forge: Age of Lazers

Posted by

With a summer of amazing releases behind us, fall is nearly here ChipWINners! August has brought us a veritable cornucopia of new musical releases from a wide array of talents. Of them, my attention was caught by a newcomer to the scene, Chris ‘Age of Lazers’ Stewart. The lasers, and swanky 80s arcade vector art were more than enough to catch my attention.  However, that seductive mixture of chip and guitar is what held it. Further, when I read that the album’s mastering was performed by Stemage himself, I knew that the ChipRealm deserved to get to know this slice of musical pie a bit better.
