Kuma’s Quick Shots #25 ft nanobii and Taylor Eruysal

Posted by

Yo, wassup, ChipWINners, and welcome back to Quick Shots: the monthly album review column where I take aim at the latest the scene has to offer and determine if it’s worth jamming out to or if you should just walk on past it. This month, I’ve got music from an exciting Swedish composer who imbues all his music with radiance and positivity, as well as introspective, complex arias from an artist who’s new to the scene.  Both producers bring records to the table that are worth dissecting, so let’s not waste any more time. Sit back, relax, and join me as I pick apart new releases from veteran chip artist nanobii and neophyte Taylor Eruysal.

The Download on… x Critical Strike x’s ‘Never let go of your dreams’

Posted by

I feel like x Critical Strike x has been criminally underrated for far too long. His 2016 release ‘Never let go of your dreams’ is one of the most quintessentially “Chiptune” albums you’ll find, from the overall message of doing what you love with a smile to the combination of chirpy, harmonic melodies and happy hardcore bass. In the 5-year gap between this and his last release ‘Starfighter’ in 2011, x Critical Strike x must have been busy as this is a 19-track monster!  I’ve been lucky enough to see him perform live, as well as an absolutely stellar ChipBattles showing, and I want everyone else to check him out.

Advice from the Volume 6 Judging Panel

Posted by

Sup y’all? =) Brandon here taking a month off from interviewing folk to provide an interim article regarding ‘Chiptunes = WIN: Volume 6‘! For any of y’all living under a rock, this year’s annual Volume competition opened up a couple months back and has a submission deadline of July 2nd this year. To possibly assist, I’ve once again collected thoughts from the year’s judging panel to share with y’all in hopes that maybe they’ll come in handy. And hey, this year I actually did it far enough ahead of time to potentially be useful. Not bad, huh? ;)

For those curious, read on below the hella nifty judges’ profile pic collage!

Hoodie Highlights… Alexander Brandon!

Posted by

Sup y’all? =) President Hoodie here bringing back my Hoodie Highlights interview column after a couple months off. Even I get a break every now and then, right? (^_−)−☆

For my return to the blog, I’m bringing both a very special guest in Alexander Brandon, a name that needs little to no introduction in and around our collective of collectives, as well a new focal point for at least the next few interviews I’m conducting: mental health.

It’s a very important topic that I feel we don’t discuss near enough publicly, especially in and around our scenes, which are brimming full of creative, often unique individuals. There’s a pervasive cultural stigma regarding mental health, and it’s one that needs to be done away with posthaste. Talking about it more often is one way to help facilitate that.

With that said, let’s get to talking!
