The Unicorn Princess Royally Reviews ‘[rr009] demi batard’ by Rhythmus Records

Posted by

Happy Wednesday, folks!

This month, I wanted to shed some light on a local record label, Rhythmus Records, and their newest release ‘[rr009], featuring music by artist Demi Batard. Rhythmus Records was created by Scott Buchanan, also known as Radio Scotvoid. Scott is the perfect person to have run a label focusing solely on lo-fi music, as his own releases showcase his dedication to synthesis and chip. I’ve been working with Rhythmus Records since last year, and have a lot of love for the label. I’ve been able to find a lot of unique artists through it, and believe it’s essential to bring attention to local labels and scenes.  I know RR was very excited about Demi Batard’s release, and given that there isn’t much music quite like his, I think you should be, too.

Office Hours – Gors ‘Brave New World’

Welcome back to the August edition of Office Hours! My classes begin next week so I need to finish up lesson plans and a syllabus before the big day on Monday. Thankfully, an album came to my attention that serves as perfect background music for work or studying, and I will definitely be recommending it to my students as the semester begins. Put on your sailing caps and don’t forget to pack the vitamin C, because we’re going ’round the world with this one!

The Unicorn Princess Royally Reviews: ‘I Know This! (OST)’ by 4mat

I was so excited when I received a notification from Bandcamp, informing me of a new soundtrack by 4mat. From the UK, he claims a unique style that makes him one of my FAVORITE artists ever, across all genres of music. His ability to be not only technically innovative in a sense where he literally creates his own space sonically, but also with his storytelling compositions, creates the perfect balance.  I knew he created audio for games, so knowing that his style would be melded to suit visuals for a soundtrack was enough for me to drop what I was doing and put everything else on the back burner. Welcome fellow chip friends and fiends to the continuing coverage of Chiptunes = WIN Volume 3! Joseph Eidson here to discuss tracks 17-21, all of which continue the tradition of awesomeness on this compilation. It is an interesting and exciting challenge to try and summarize five very different artists with their own unique approaches to chip music: the extreme variety is one of the things that I really enjoy about listening to this album as a whole.
