Heya friends! It’s been a good few months since I’ve published a new interview here on the blog. Suffice it to say, I’ve been more than just a littlebusy in the interim….
Me as a kaomoji these last few months….
That said, I’ve very much missed both talking to awesome folk in and around our communities and sharing those insightful conversations with y’all. That’s why today, I’m hopping back on that interview train!
Presenting a very special guest and friend that’s I’ve been happy to have worked with in the intervening busy months, everyone welcome to the blog Alex Soborov aka Purely Grey of Tracked Records! Enjoy!
Tuberz here. Rather than rant about theory and rhythms and other malarkey, Brandon thought it would be nice to get me to review some of the stellar new tracks from ‘Chiptunes = WIN: Volume 7’.
I took up the challenge with eager willingness to enjoy some tunage and I must say that I have really been taken by surprise with the sheer quality of some of this music. That’s saying something because I already thought the music would be insanely good. Without further adieu, let’s hear my ranting about other peoples’ application of music theory.
Careful or V.7 art contest winner, TinyNeenja’s, Glitch Dragon will melt more than just your face!
ARE YOU READY FOR MY SCATHING CRITIQUE OF GAMEBOY JAMS AND OTHER SUCH PARAPHERNALIA???
Loss; it’s not just a meme based off someone’s webcomic. It’s a legitimate experience for all of us (no matter whether you feel it or not). It can cause all sorts of reactions, most of them being rather typical from what we have seen and heard in many forms of media. With Zanate’s ‘Stray Dogs’, however, we experience it through the eyes of the artist experiencing it first-hand with the loss of their dog named Bruno. Using 2A03+VRC6 via Famitracker and their experience with rock instrumentation, we can walk through the goodbye and tribute to a good boy. Get ready to have a mix of feelings when you throw on this seven-track album.
We’ve hit that magical time of the year where we release 51 tracks of some of the best chipmusic out there today. For the sixth year in a row, the international chiptune community has come forth to present a collection of some of their best efforts. Without a doubt, with any growing international community of badass composers and sound designers, time and dedication have proven to further develop people’s talents. It comes as no surprise to say that this year’s release is even stronger than the last! Without further ado, let’s dive in to the first ten songs of the track list!

Fearofdark is not a newcomer on the scene, but rather a miracle of modern science, a beacon of Chiptune wisdom, and a coffee enthusiast. As a revered Famitracker Wizard and ModPlug Master coming off the back of several successful albums, Mr. ofdark has released a brand new chippy toure de force titled ‘Exit Plan’. The album combines his love of jazz harmonies, four to the floor head bobbing, and pseudo avant garde whole tone weirdness. ‘Exit Plan’ is released through Ubiktune, a label known for their ridiculously complex, progressive music that combines super catchy melodies and riffs with weird time signatures and absurd harmonic progressions. This album is no outlier. It exemplifies everything that I just listed, as this album is masterfully crafted.
Alright team. Let’s go on a journey. Let’s jam!
Fearofdark + Dragons = I should have studied maths rather than music at university
