Chip Bit Sid Takes On: Chip Bit Day 2019

Posted by

Hello everyone. If you haven’t heard I’m yet again organising Chip Bit Day and it’s in its 4th year. I never thought I’d do another one after 2016, but here we are. As with all my Chip Bit Day articles, I will be showcasing each artist who is playing whilst picking a track that I think properly defines them. If you are interested in donating to Chip Bit Day you can do so by following the link here.

Volume 7 is a thing ChipWINners, and what a thing it is, am I right?

With this release refusing to buck the trend of each Volume being a new flavor of amazing, I’m honored to be here to bring you the first ten track reviews. So honored that I’ll cut the rest of the standard opening poppycock and get right to work.

Aydan Appreciates: ‘Random Smash Hits’ by Yoann Turpin

Posted by

Keyboardist, composer, and chipmusician Yoann Turpin has seen a number of his works featured in the ChipWIN community, be it his submission to the ChipWINter compilation, 2014’s ‘FriendChip’, or 2015’s ‘Chip Songbook Vol. 6’. His music is known throughout our niche for its funky vibes, his phenomenal work on the keys, and jazzy, improvisational solos that’re all ingredients for truly gorgeous music. His latest release, ‘Random Smash Hits’, is a collection of three short weeks’ worth of Turpin’s aural artwork. As if the sheer quantity of music he’s released in the last two years wasn’t enough to turn heads, the speed with which this album was composed and mastered is astounding.

So let’s see what chiptune chart-topping pieces lie in wait!

Chip Bit Sid Takes On: Four Small Songs!

Posted by

Chiptune is not a place for the lazy man, with people all across the world creating astounding beats, either through retro hardware or invoking their love for nostalgia through modern equipment. Unfortunately due to the pit of music we all start in, the majority of all these songs sadly remain silent with only a handful of people listening to their glory. So because of this, I decided to start a Soundcloud group. A little vault where people can upload their hidden gems. From there, I select four awesome tunes that you wouldn’t normally hear.

So anyway, let’s get right into this!

Aydan Appreciates: ‘Waveform 5’ by Joshua Morse

Posted by

Hey there, ChipWINners! Joshua Morse, having produced chipmusic as early as 2007, has always been recognized as a pioneer of our ever-growing community. His music has been featured in several video games, such as ‘A Wizard’s Lizard’, ‘Onslaught!’, and ‘Lunch Bug’. Additionally, his long-running ‘Waveform’ releases are arguably some of the best chipjazz releases on the block, with each one showcasing Morse’s growth as a musician, not dissimilar to the ‘BLUE’ trilogy composed by chipfunk legend PROTODOME, or the progressively complex pieces written by Pieces of Eight. Just before the turn of the new year, Joshua Morse released ‘Waveform 5’, an EP of five chip-fusion-jazz tracks that’re sure to stick with you. Let’s get to it!
