The Unicorn Princess Royally Reviews ‘workplace ergonomics’ by nmlstyl

Happy June, folks!

This month on the blog, I display to you all a modest delayed reaction on a spring release that I enjoyed recently. ‘workplace ergonomics’ was released on April 23rd, 2018 by Philly based musician, visual artist, and coder, nmlstyl.  While I was shocked that it hadn’t already been reviewed here, there were absolutely no surprises on my end as to how gorgeous this record turned out to be.

The Unicorn Princess Royally Reviews ‘I Just Want to Go Home, Why is that so Difficult?’ by Spaceman Fantastiques

Happy July, everyone!

Social media has its ups and downs and this month’s blog post will focus on one of its positives: this past month has brought to my attention yet another Spaceman Fantastiques release! ‘I Just Want to Go Home, Why is that so Difficult?’ is an exploration of sound and music used to describe the issues of traveling via plane when you just want to be with your family.  Filled with lo-fi grit, sampling, and on location ambience, Spaceman Fantastiques has a knack for creating poignant narrations through music and sound.

Kuma’s Quick Shots #23 ft. Gigibyte, Thorazine Unicorn, and 8-Bit Mullet

  • Heyo, ChipWINners! Welcome back to Quick Shots! This month, I’ll be reviewing work from three artists across the creative spectrum who have each brought something rather unique to the table. The first is a debut EP from a chiptuner with EDM leanings. The second is an artist I’ve featured in my interview column who has recently put out two new singles. The third is an offering that skews more towards Nerdcore than chiptune, but was too unique to pass up on sharing with all of you. So lets not waste any more time. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the works of Gigibyte, Thorazine Unicorn, and 8-Bit Mullet.

INCOMING TRANSMISSION

Howdy y’all!

This summer has been crazy for chiptune with releases like our own ‘Chiptunes = WIN: Volume 5,’ Cheapsh0t’s ‘Influx,’ and Shirobon’s ‘Pleasure Island.’ But this album is something I really couldn’t ignore writing about. We finally have a new album from the amazing folks at Thebasebit Recordings with Tri Angles’ ‘REBEL SOUL,’ which is the first they’ve put out in over a year. Let’s take a look at what Tri Angles has brought to the table this time!

The Unicorn Princess Royally Reviews & Interviews Radio Skotvoid

Happy July, everyone!

This month, I wanted to turn everyone’s attention towards a Scottish born artist currently living in Massachusetts whose love for chip tune, lo-fi, and synthesizers has unified a clan of east coasters while he pursued creating record labels, organizing live performances, and promoting releases. However, Scott Buchanan isn’t just a great organizer; he’s also a performer himself, and wearer of many hats. Sound designing, composing, tinkering with circuit bending, note tracking, and being well versed in the ins and outs of the analog world are among his many talents.

I met Scott (though some of you may know him as Radio Scotvoid, Radio Skotvoid, or My Brother Daniel) in the fall of 2014; I had released my first record earlier in the year, and he asked if I’d take part in his lo-fi release under his new record label, Rhythmus Records. Scott knows everybody on the east coast, and even keeps close ties with a crew of lo-fi visualists and composers from the Pacific Northwest, so the collaboration was not only really fun, but a great way to interact with like-minded people. Being a key member of the chip scene in Massachusetts for quite a while now, Scott took his experiences in being a part of live shows and used good communication skills to get people together who share the same love for music while giving them a chance to share their projects.
