The Unicorn Princess Royally Interviews peaksound, Composer For Reassembly Fields Expansion

Happy January, folks!

After a few years of writing record reviews for ChipWIN, I’ve decided to take a prolonged break from writing articles here to focus on wrapping up records of my own, my career, life, and travel. Life has been super good but extremely busy, and while I may return on occasion, this article will be the last for a while, so I wanted to make it a good one.

This month, I wanted to push some attention towards game audio created by a friend of mine, Peter Brown, also known as peaksound. On the 22nd, Anisoptera Games released the Fields Expansion version of Reassembly on Steam, and with that, peaksound released some incredibly beautiful music on his Bandcamp. I had the pleasure of checking out the record prior to the release, and seeing it days later with gameplay did not disappoint.

The Unicorn Princess Royally Reviews ‘[rr009] demi batard’ by Rhythmus Records

Happy Wednesday, folks!

This month, I wanted to shed some light on a local record label, Rhythmus Records, and their newest release ‘[rr009], featuring music by artist Demi Batard. Rhythmus Records was created by Scott Buchanan, also known as Radio Scotvoid. Scott is the perfect person to have run a label focusing solely on lo-fi music, as his own releases showcase his dedication to synthesis and chip. I’ve been working with Rhythmus Records since last year, and have a lot of love for the label. I’ve been able to find a lot of unique artists through it, and believe it’s essential to bring attention to local labels and scenes.  I know RR was very excited about Demi Batard’s release, and given that there isn’t much music quite like his, I think you should be, too.

The Unicorn Princess Royally Reviews ‘Frosty Frolic’ by Robotprins

President Hoodie sent me a copy of Robotprins’ new release through CheapBeats. I really respect Hoodie’s taste in music, and that alone would normally be enough to catch my attention.  However, Robotprins is someone I had never heard of before.  All I had to go on from was the bright cover art, with its happy blonde dude riding a snowmobile with a snowy palace in the background. Still, I’m all about finding hidden gem artists, so the mystery was enough to spark my interest. I love digging through an unknown artists’ records to see how, what, and why they create. I also hope that these reviews encourage them to keep doing what they love. (more…)
