Hey y’all! =) For this month’s interview, I’m reprising a 2014 blog chat that I had with a very talented Norwegian friend of mine whose music you’re very likely familiar with. Unsurprisingly, the man has accomplished more than enough in the four years since then to warrant yet another sit down with me here on the blog.
Everyone welcome back to the blog, Vegard Kummen aka Kubbi!
Not entirely sure what’s going on here, but it sure makes for a pretty sweet picture.
Sooooooo, what was going to be a week-long series of social media posts giving brief historical context on five years of our compilation series (a little hype leading up to Friday’s V.6 launch if you will) just turned into a week-long series of blog posts featuring such. Why? Simple: there’s no word limit here. ಠ‿↼ And boy howdy, can I write a lot about this gorram project; especially this core facet of it.
This year our collaborating partners for the expansion release are none of than • Forest • , fronted by Vegard Kummen aka Kubbi & Alexander Agri of Norway! Appropriately named ‘Forest = ВИН (WIN)’, this compilation features 10 V.5 subs + 3 bonus tracks for your earholes to enjoy as soon as Monday, August 29th!
To hear ’em first, join us at on the 29th at 7pm Eastern on geekbeatradio.com for the release party with chat in chiptuneswin.com/chat. Should feature some interesting & entertaining chatter between the organizers as well as the excellent musics! Invite & share with your friends via the Fb event here!
CATCH YA THEN! ヾ(＾∇＾)
Brandon L Hood aka “President Hoodie” Founder & Project Manager of Chiptunes = WIN
Sup y’all? =) President Hoodie here with a quick update to the progress of ‘Chiptunes = WIN: Volume 5′ along with some interesting thoughts from this year’s judging panel.
First up, as you’ve all probably noticed by now (what with our daily reminders and all〜(꒪꒳꒪)〜), the V.5 submission deadline has been extended from June 12th to June 19th. As of this publication, there’s a little less than a week remaining for all tracks to be finalized and submitted. So everyone, get ’em done and get ’em in! Once that’s wrapped up, we’ll begin the judging period of the project, which’ll likely take a couple of weeks to lock in. Don’t worry, I’ll entertain you with some quality #JudgesTweets during that process. ಠ‿↼
Regarding album artwork, how about a blurry sneak peek of the work in progress?
Rest easy, Nate Horsfall is proving himself a badass *YET AGAIN*.
There’s more than one reason to get hyped about the album that I’m reviewing this month, chipfam. Not only is ‘Black’ by Russian chiptune artist Zan a killer new release in its own right, but it also marks the launch of an exciting new chiptune netlabel, • Forest •! Yes, the founder of Forest Booking, Alexander Agri, has recently leveled up from booking agency to full-blown netlabel and joined forces with none other than Kubbi to begin releasing awesome chipmusic to the world. In addition, ‘Black’ features Twistboy (now going by the name Purely Grey), who takes turns with Zan remixing each other’s tracks on the latter half of the album. I’ve expressed my love for both Kubbi and Twistboy’s music in previousblog posts, and to see their paths cross for an album in this way was more than enough to pique my interest. After hearing ‘Black’ by Zan, I think you’ll agree that this is one hell of a kickass release, and look forward to what • Forest • puts out in the future.
